Through this course, students will be able to identify the appropriate use of information systems to gain competitive advantage in a global business environment. In organizations today IT/IS have become a key component of accomplishing strategic and operational goals. As such, most organizations expect their new employees (college graduates) to have a basic understanding of IT/IS. For a business graduate to advance in a career, one must also understand how to use IT/IS to perform one’s job more effectively, efficiently, and creatively. IT/IS are therefore, an essential part of today’s organizations whether public or private.

This course is designed to familiarize you with the fundamental concepts and principles of IT/IS. It is targeted for undergraduate students in business who have little or no background in IT/IS. Therefore, it focuses on breadth of coverage rather than depth in any specific area. The topics that will be covered are: Information, IS and Enterprise; Business Strategy and IS; Business Process and IS; Data Management, Information as Business Resources; IS in Support of Business Decisions; Applications of Inter-networking to Business; Design, Development and Implementation of IS; and Business Integration through Systems Integration.
