Description
This refers to taking a step (text mining for example) that involves analysing each mention of entity in social media (say Apple) and deciding which object it belongs to(the company Apple, the fruit, or the person Mr. Apple). Entity disambiguation is critical during the data collection stage to filter the social media an organization analyzes. For instance, a comment about an apple keeping the doctor away later can result in spurious correlations between Apple products and medical problems.
